WGCCC 2026: Structure, Leadership & Direction

New Club Structure & Leadership – 2026

Following our recent AGM, where the new structure was approved, and the subsequent EGM to finalise key roles, we are delighted to confirm the organisational structure of Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club as we continue to build for the future.

This restructure represents an important step forward for the club — creating clearer accountability, stronger alignment across all areas, and a platform for sustainable growth both on and off the field .

At its core is a simple principle: one club, working together, with clear roles and shared purpose.

A Club Built on People

We want to recognise and thank everyone who has stepped forward into a role this season.

WGCCC is powered by volunteers, and it’s the collective effort across all areas — cricket, coaching, facilities, operations and community — that makes the club what it is.

Every contribution matters, and this structure reflects the strength and depth of people across the club.

Looking Ahead

This new structure gives us:

  • Clear leadership and accountability
  • Stronger alignment between junior and senior cricket
  • Greater focus on coaching, development and performance
  • A platform to grow commercially and sustainably

Most importantly, it positions us to continue building a club that is competitive, welcoming and firmly rooted in the community.

Here’s to the 2026 season — and to everyone playing their part in it.

WELWYN GARDEN CITY CRICKET CLUB

Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club is part of the Digswell Park Sports Association which is based just off Knightsfield, Welwyn Garden City.

A vibrant club which has been successful over recent seasons winning promotion to the highest level of Club Cricket.

The club has five Saturday sides. The First XI play at high level in Saracens Hertfordshire League while the other four teams play in various divisions of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League. The club also enters various cup competitions, and has a now re-formed list of Sunday friendly fixtures.

The Juniors section has been growing strongly again since COVID retaining a balance between performance, through its emerging players programme and its family-friendly feeling, open to players of all experience and abilities. Cricket training begins at Reception and Year1. Teams are entered at all age groups (U9-U17) into the Hertfordshire Junior Leagues. We have a thriving Girls section who also play competitive cricket in the HJL. Across the Juniors, we develop our leading players' skills and abilities while also offering "cricket for all".

For more information email: bees@wgccc.co.uk (seniors) and juniorbees@wgccc.co.uk (juniors).

NEW PLAYERS

The club is always on the look out for new players, young and old. Led by our Director of Cricket James Hewitt, with five Saturday teams, a revived Sunday Friendly XI and two midweek training sessions our senior section can provide cricket for all abilities. If you're interested in joining us contact bees@wgccc.co.uk.

The Juniors section, under lead coach Sam Rizvi and managed by Ian Watkins, is an excellent place to learn or develop your cricket skills. Girls and boys of all ages are welcome.  If you're interested in joining us contact juniorbees@wgccc.co.uk.
