Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club - Code of Conduct

WGCCC Code of Conduct – Playing the Right Way

At Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club, we play hard, compete to win, and take pride in representing our club.

But we do so with respect, integrity, and in the true spirit of cricket.

Every member is a custodian of the WGCCC badge — we wear it with pride, and we pass it on to the next generation.

Our Expectations

Members WILL:
  • Represent WGCCC with pride, professionalism and respect — on and off the field
  • Play competitively, but always within the spirit and laws of the game
  • Respect teammates, opponents, umpires, volunteers and supporters
  • Welcome all players, members and visitors to the club
  • Contribute positively to the club environment and culture
  • Take responsibility for their behaviour, both in person and online

Our Standards

Members WILL NOT:
  • Engage in verbal or physical abuse, intimidation or hostility
  • Dispute or show dissent towards umpire decisions
  • Use abusive, personal or discriminatory language (“sledging”)
  • Engage in excessive or intimidatory appealing
  • Act in a way that brings WGCCC or the game of cricket into disrepute
  • Post or share content on social media that damages the club’s reputation

Safeguarding, Welfare & Standards

WGCCC is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all.

As an ECB Clubmark-accredited club, we operate in line with ECB safeguarding, equity and welfare guidelines, ensuring that:

  • All members, especially juniors, are protected and supported
  • Cricket is accessible, inclusive and welcoming to all
  • Behaviour across the club reflects the highest standards of care and respect

These principles are fundamental to how we operate as a club and community

The WGCCC Way

We are more than just a cricket club.
We are a community built on respect, effort and shared standards — something reflected right across the club’s structure and culture
  • We compete hard, but fairly
  • We support each other
  • We take pride in the club we represent
  • We leave the club in a better place than we found it

Discipline

Any member reported for a breach of this Code of Conduct will be required to appear before the Club’s Disciplinary Committee.
Sanctions will be applied where necessary to protect the standards, culture and reputation of WGCCC.

“Play hard. Play fair. Represent WGCCC the right way.”
