Cricket Week 2026 – The Best Week of the Summer
There are many highlights in the cricketing calendar, but for WGCCC members there is one week that stands above all others.
Every cricket club has traditions.
At Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club, none is more important than Cricket Week.
For one week each summer, Digswell Park becomes the centre of club life. Cricket is played across the week, old friendships are renewed, new memories are created and generations of WGCCC members come together to celebrate the club we all care so deeply about.
Cricket Week is more than a collection of fixtures. It is a celebration of our history, our people and our future.
Many of the players who take the field today do so because previous generations built the club before them. They prepared pitches, coached juniors, organised events, raised money, served on committees and gave countless hours of their time to create the WGCCC we enjoy today.
Cricket Week is our opportunity to recognise that contribution and bring the entire WGCCC family together.

Patron's Tea
A key part of Cricket Week is our annual Patron's Tea.
This event allows us to thank the patrons, former players, members, friends and families whose support helps sustain the club both on and off the field.
Many have played for WGCCC. Many have volunteered behind the scenes. Others simply care deeply about the club and want to see it continue to thrive.
Their generosity and commitment help us invest in junior cricket, coaching, facilities and the long-term future of the club.
We remain enormously grateful for their continued support and the role they play in ensuring cricket continues to flourish at Digswell Park for future generations.
Past vs Present
The traditional highlight of Cricket Week arrives on Friday with the annual Past vs Present fixture.
Former players return to Digswell Park to renew old rivalries and test themselves against the club's current generation.
It is one of the few occasions each year where WGCCC's history and present come together on the same field.
For current players, it is an opportunity to meet those who helped shape the club. For returning members, it is a chance to reconnect with old friends and revisit a few memories from years gone by.
Current members should prepare themselves accordingly. There is every chance you will hear about a famous century, an impossible catch, a title-winning side or a legendary night in the clubhouse. Whether the details have improved over time remains a matter of debate!
Friday BBQ
Following the match, members, families, supporters and guests are invited to stay for the traditional Cricket Week BBQ.
Hosted by WGCCC's resident BBQ extraordinaire, Wakko, it is the perfect way to round off the week, bringing together players past and present for an evening of food, drinks and good company.
More Than Cricket
WGCCC has always been about more than the current XI on the field.
It is built on generations of players, volunteers, supporters, families and friends who have contributed their time, energy and passion to make the club what it is today.
Cricket Week is a celebration of that shared history and a reminder that the future of the club will be built in exactly the same way.
Whether you are a current player, former member, junior parent, patron, volunteer or supporter, we hope you will join us at Digswell Park during the week.
Once a WGCCC member, always a WGCCC member. We look forward to welcoming you back to Digswell Park.
Cricket Week only comes around once a year. Make sure you're part of it.
