Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club - Junior Cricket

Welcome

Welcome to the Juniors section of Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club!

We are the local cricket club for kids in WGC, Welwyn, Hatfield, and their surrounding villages.

We are a family-friendly club that offers cricket for all girls and boys, whatever their age, ability or previous experience.  We run matches from U9s upwards, but our players can start cricket at age 5.  Every player that wants to play matches will be able to.  We also have a strong performance pathway for our more talented players.

Organiser of Youth Cricket
Our Juniors Cricket Co-ordinator is Ian Watkins (juniorbees@wgccc.co.uk).

Feel free to get in touch if you have any queries about the Juniors section.

New Players
We welcome new players of all ages and abilities, girls and boys, whether or not they've played cricket before.

New players can try us out for their initial training session for free before deciding to commit.

Please contact our Organiser of Youth Cricket to find out more.

We train indoors from January to March, and outdoors at our ground from April to August.  Our winter nets (Jan-Mar) are an ideal time to get involved.

The membership subscription amounts are shown in the box below.  If you are unsure which level to pay for, please ask Ian Watkins (Juniors Co-ordinator) or email juniorbees@wgccc.co.uk.

Payment can be made either in full, or in four equal monthly instalments at the start of May, June, July and August.

Please send an email to juniorbees@wgccc.co.uk to confirm that payment has been made.
All Stars & Dynamo Cricket
WGC Cricket Club has a hugely popular, very friendly and thriving Juniors section.

We are not part of the actual All Stars or Dynamos programmes, simply because we've been running an equivalent programme for many years, and we manage to run it for 20 weeks rather than just the 8 weeks of the official All Stars and Dynamos schemes.

We offer cricket for all children from age 5 upwards - girls and boys, lots of experience or none.

If your child has been enjoying All Stars or Dynamos, and wants to continue now that the programme has finished, please try us out to carry on until the end of August.  We train on Sunday mornings, from 9.45am to 11am.

Please visit the Junior Cricket section of this website or email juniorbees@wgccc.co.uk to find out more.

Feel free to try us out for a free session.  If you want to continue, then players can sign up as Development Members just for the summer months at a special summer rate.
Club Playing Kit
WGCCC junior playing kit is now supplied by Tylers. The WGCCC Juniors webshop is at https://www.tylers-sportswear.co.uk/Catalogue/Sports-Webshops/Cricket-Clubs/Welwyn-Garden-City-CC.

Juniors can wear plain cricket whites or club kit when playing matches.  For training, any sports kit is fine.
2026 Winter Training

Indoor winter training programme 2026

Our indoor winter training programme will run weekly from Sunday 11 January 2026 through to 29 March 2026, with the exception of Sunday 1 March, when the sports hall is unavailable due to school exams.

Venue:

Stanborough School Sports Hall
Lemsford Lane
Welwyn Garden City
AL8 6YR

Training is divided into four one-hour sessions based on age group:

2:00–3:00pm – Under 5 to Under 8 (school years 0–3)
3:00–4:00pm – Under 9 & Under 10 (school years 4 & 5)
4:00–5:00pm – Under 11 & Under 12 (school years 6 & 7)
5:00–6:00pm – Under 13, Under 14 & Under 15 (school years 8, 9 & 10)

The first two sessions use soft or Incrediballs, so no protective equipment is required. Suitable clothing would be a t-shirt and jogging bottoms.

The later two sessions use hard cricket balls. Players in these sessions must wear appropriate protective equipment when batting. As a minimum, this includes pads, gloves, helmet and an abdominal protector (box). Players will not be permitted to bat without these items.

Wearing a thigh pad is strongly recommended, though not compulsory.

New players welcome

New players are always welcome at our winter training sessions. If possible, please contact Ian Watkins (junorbees@wgccc.co.uk) before you attend to let us know you will be coming.

For the first session, please arrive 10 minutes before the session start time so that we can take a few details and explain the process.

The first two training sessions for new recruits are FREE taster sessions. After that there is a fee of £5 per player per week.
