It is with the deepest sadness that WGGCC mourns the passing of David Bray — known and loved by all as Jange, Ginge, or Squeak — a man whose kindness was as boundless as his talent on the cricket pitch. David passed away recently at the age of 53.
David was the complete cricketer — a genuine all-rounder in every sense. As a swing bowler he had a rare gift, drawing movement that left batsmen searching for answers, combining skill with a quiet, relentless confidence. Coming in down the order, he was never content to simply occupy the crease; David was a hard-hitting, fearless batsman who could turn a game on its head in just a few overs. Those who played alongside him in his younger years will remember that mop of beach-blonde hair catching the sun as he ran in to bowl.
In the Furnell Cup Final at Shenley, he produced a bowling spell for the ages — nine overs of sheer, match-winning brilliance that delivered the cup to WGCCC.
Cricket, for David, was also a family affair. He shared his love of the game with his brother Richard — Bubble to everyone at the club — and the sight of the two Bray brothers together on the field was always something to cherish.
David leaves behind his son Joshua. We hope Joshua knows just how deeply his father was loved and admired — not only as a cricketer, but as a truly good man. The whole club stands with him and with the Bray family at this most painful of times.
Jange, Ginge, Squeak — you will be fondly missed by every single person lucky enough to have known you. Rest easy, old friend.
